Jeff was born on November 7, to Chuck and Helen Harmer. When he was a few years old, his family moved from Wooster to Fredericktown. During his years at Fredericktown High School, Jeff earned the rank of Eagle Scout and discovered a love of theatre after being involved with several productions.
In the fall of 1982, Jeff took a job at the Knox County Memorial Building doing everything from custodial work to theater tech.
In September 1984, Jeff joined the Knox County Sheriff’s Office as an auxiliary and obtained his commission the following January. He has been involved in all aspects of public safety, including law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. All of these experiences trained him for the fast pace of racing.
When asked what he thought about his Grudge Race competitors, Harmer replied, “Going fast is not a new thing for me, I’ve caught most everything I chased, but this time they will be chasing me.”
